About me
I live by the Ocean & make Art every day.
Melissa J. Hampson-Smith is an Environmental Artist with an interest in Past Cultures, Materials, Time Travel & Outer Space.
She makes art jewellery, Objet d'art, sculptures & paintings inspired by future colonisation of other planets.
Some pieces contain found things, others seeds to plant on arrival to a new planet or for re-wilding parts of planet Earth.
She has exhibited widely & is a member of Precious Collective, Curators Space & an Associate Member of Penwith Galleries St Ives. Her art-jewellery is stocked by Ruup & Form London. And her work can be found in the Crafts Council online catalogue.
Recently one of her drawings was chosen for the first #aspshows as part of #artistsupportpledge at Hastings Contemporary and her paintings were chosen for exhibition at Fronteer Gallery Sheffield
Melissa completed two Artist residencies with Mayes Creative in 2021

Whilst studying sculpture in Brighton I also learned stone carving in Portland. I've loved to carve ever since & have even carved wooden substrates for paintings.
Using found things & reclaimed metals juxtaposed with carved stone, beach brick, semi precious stones, plastics & seeds I have a practice that includes creating Objet d'art, Art-Jewellery & Paintings.
